Why is age infant to five the best time to start music lessons?
Because music develops like language!
"The years from birth through age six are critical for learning how to unscramble the aural images of music and to develop mental representations for organizing the music of the culture (Holahan, 1987; Davidson, 1985). This process is similar to that which unfolds for language during the "language babble" stage."

To play with Matt Mello is to understand why we love music in the first place. His many years of musical experience is evident; there is hardly a style with which he is not familiar. And yet Matt expresses an enthusiasm that is positively contagious. When a young musician trains with him, that energy is transfered and the student cannot help but play with vigor and joy.

As an early childhood educator and a mother, I am thoroughly impressed with the Music Together classes taught by Mr. Matt Mello. Mr. Matt has such an engaging way about him, he always leaves my ten month old mesmerized! He captivates the attention of all of the children in the class, and he inspires all of the parents to be musical and carefree. Mr. Matt has such a great knowledge of how the brain works in language/music acquisition that he so often leaves me with thoughts that resonate. Through Mr. Matt’s Music Together classes, I have not only become a more musical mother, but I have also become a more musical teacher in my classroom!

Training with Matt at Jake Ivory’s was not much different than
pre-season with an amazing coach. In Matt's case, he surrounded me
with his passion, a secret playbook of stage-presence and
communication, knowledge of the pop/rock song, strategy of vocal
stamina, and enough homework to give me a good work out in the week to
come. He passed on the character and precision that it takes to enter
the boxing ring known as Jake Ivory’s. (www.theclickfive.com)

The Music Together program and Matt’s talented teaching abilities have
enriched our lives and lifted our spirits. When my youngest daughter was at
an age when she could benefit from organized activities, I became committed
to choosing activities the girls could do together. Music Together not only
achieves my goal, but its value and the role it plays in our lives have far
surpassed my expectations. The learning and fun continue well beyond our
class time with my daughters singing, dancing, and playing instruments to
the CDs all week long. In January 2007, we will begin our third session of
Music Together, and there is no end in sight as we are among Matt’s biggest
fans!

Matt Mello is truly a master teacher. Combining skilled musicianship with a love for his craft, Matt exudes patience and understanding as he guides his students. It is a rare blessing when such a talented performer is equally at home in the role of educator. Matt is simply a gift!

My daughter has developed such great rhythm and movement skills. She sings and hums all day long and dances whenever she hears a beat. She adores “Mr. Matt” and gets upset when we drive by the Reed Center and don’ turn in for M.T. class. M.T. has been a great bonding experience for my two year old and me. We love it!

Matt is solely responsible for renewing my passion for playing the piano. As an adult student, I previously encounted roadblocks while studying with teachers who were unable to truly connect with rock music. Matt brought back my enthusiasm for playing. Matt is truly unique is his ability to perform and instruct for rock techniques. His loves his trade. As a performer at Jake Ivory's, he is a master at meeting the needs of his audience and inspiring the audience relate to the music. He brings that same level of quality to his teaching.
